Our solution
Two basement levels replaced the surface parking. Above, a grid of 120 trees, lightweight shade canopies and a misting system create a square that stays usable in summer evenings.

The result
Surface temperatures in the square measured 14 °C lower than the car park it replaced, and weekday footfall for surrounding shops rose by around a third.
